Guiding Principles & Beliefs About Change

“There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it is going to be a butterfly.” - R. Buckminster Fuller

Organicity - We already hold the strength and wisdom we need to survive and thrive. Each of us has an innate capacity to grow and adapt, guided by the curiosity and intelligence we were born with. Rebuilding trust in ourselves - learning to listen to what feels right - can set the course for deep healing.

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.” - Albert Einstein

Wise Knowing - We all possess this unique inner wisdom that guides us throughout our lives. Our brains and bodies protect us during painful experiences by suppressing emotions and sensations, storing them away until we are ready to process them. But facing these emotions can feel overwhelming, so we develop coping strategies or habitual tendencies - some of which no longer serve us. This often unconscious wisdom and knowing can help us find a rich and meaningful life as we gain conscious understanding of ourselves and our inner world.

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.” - Laozi

Curiosity & Compassion - We all have moments when we need to be reminded of our own strength and ability to regain control of our emotions and behaviors. We are resilient beings, capable of real and lasting change. Neuroscience shows that transformation happens when we become aware of our inner experience and learn to befriend what’s happening inside us. Healing begins with awareness and involves caring self reflection, curious present moment experiencing, exploration of the new and different and compassionately celebrating victories - both big and small.

“Mindfulness not only makes it possible to survey our internal landscape with compassion and curiosity but can also actively steer us in the right direction for self-care.”
― Bessel A. van der Kolk

Attunement & Relationship - Relational wounds are healed in relationship, making the therapeutic connection my primary focus. It is in relationship that we can practice being seen, being heard and taking up space in a way that feels reparative and filling. Through collaboration we will rediscover the strength and courage available to you, enhancing your ability to connect to yourself and those important to you.

“To know when to go away and when to come closer is the key to any lasting relationship.” - Doménico Cieri Estrada
