Per Congress’ new “No Surprises Act”, all clients have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much their medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items or services. The No Surprises Act states that patients have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services such as the cost of medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. The No Surprises Act also states that patients can ask their provider for a Good Faith Estimate at any time before their scheduled service and they should be provided this at least one business day before the scheduled service. If patients receive a bill that is at least $400 more than the Good Faith Estimate they received, they can dispute the bill. Patients are encouraged to save a copy of their Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information to your right for a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 720-504-5169.
